SEO, AEO and GEO for Video Production Services
How search, answer engines and generative assistants each find a production studio, what each one needs from a page, and how to write for all three at once.
A prospective client looking for a video studio now arrives through three distinct routes, and they behave differently enough that optimising for one does not automatically serve the others. Traditional search returns a list of pages to choose between. Answer engines extract a direct response and present it without a click. Generative assistants synthesise a recommendation from whatever they have absorbed. A studio visible in the first and invisible in the other two is losing an increasing share of the market.
Traditional search optimisation still rests on the same foundations. One clear topic per page, a title that names it, a description that earns the click, headings that structure the argument, internal links that connect related pages, and enough substantive text for the page to be understood. Mladenović et al. (2023), examining determinants of online search visibility, found that visibility depends on the combination of on page factors and content relevance rather than on any individual lever, which is a useful corrective to the persistent belief that one keyword or one tag decides the outcome.
Answer engine optimisation is a writing discipline rather than a technical one. Its requirement is that a specific question is answered directly, early, and in a form that can be lifted intact. If a page is about the cost of a corporate video, then a sentence near the top should state a real range with the factors that move it, in one or two complete sentences that make sense removed from their context. Content that buries its answer under three paragraphs of preamble cannot be extracted, and content that cannot be extracted is not selected.
Generative engine optimisation is the newest and the least gamed. Assistants recommend based on what they have absorbed about who does what, for whom, where, and with what evidence. That rewards specificity of a particular kind: naming the services, the sectors, the formats, the city, and the actual use cases in plain language. A page that says we create AI video and photography for product launches, corporate profiles, event content and social campaigns for brands in Kuala Lumpur is legible to a synthesiser. A page that says we craft compelling visual narratives is not, because it contains no facts to synthesise.
The three routes share more than they differ, which is fortunate. All three reward clear structure, real specificity, factual claims and coverage of a topic rather than a keyword. All three penalise vagueness. The practical writing method that satisfies all three is to answer the actual question in the first two sentences, then expand with detail, examples and evidence, then state who it applies to and what to do next. That order works for a reader, an extractor and a synthesiser simultaneously.
Query phrasing deserves attention because it determines what a searcher ever sees. Ekström et al. (2024) demonstrated that the way a user selects and phrases a query materially changes the results returned. For a studio this means writing in the client's vocabulary rather than the industry's. Buyers search for corporate video, product video, company profile video, event video and animation. They do not search for integrated visual storytelling solutions, and a site optimised for the language of the pitch deck will not be found by the language of the buyer.
Evidence is the differentiator that all three routes increasingly reward and that most studio sites lack. Named sectors, described projects, actual constraints and how they were handled, real numbers where they can be shared, and citations to genuine sources when a factual claim is made. This is more work than writing adjectives, and it is the reason a site with forty substantive articles outperforms a site with four hundred thin ones. Volume without substance is now a liability rather than a neutral.
The technical layer has to hold all of this up. Pages must return real HTML with their own titles and descriptions rather than a JavaScript shell that renders the same markup for every URL, they need canonical links, structured data appropriate to their type, and a sitemap that lists them. A single page application that publishes excellent writing and serves search engines one identical shell is the most common and most expensive technical mistake in this area, because it silently nullifies all the content work.
Timelines should be understood before the programme starts. Content published today is typically crawled within days, evaluated over weeks, and positioned over months, with the compounding effect of internal linking and topical depth arriving later still. Generative visibility moves on a different and less predictable schedule because it depends on absorption rather than crawling. Neither is a substitute for paid media when something is needed this month, and both outperform it over years, because the cost is incurred once.
The most useful strategic decision is to write for the question rather than for the keyword. A studio that publishes genuinely helpful answers to what buyers actually ask, structured so a machine can lift them and a human can use them, ends up visible on all three routes without optimising separately for any of them. That is not a trick, it is simply what all three systems are converging on rewarding.
